Doctor-Prescribed Weight Loss in Singapore — How Medical Treatment Works
Doctor-prescribed weight loss is a clinical process: a registered doctor assesses your health, decides what is appropriate, prescribes only where it helps, and monitors your response. It is the opposite of a commercial slimming package.
In short
Prescription treatment is one option within a supervised programme — never the default, never sold in advance, and never without monitoring.
01
How medical weight loss differs from commercial programmes
A commercial slimming package sells a fixed plan in advance. A doctor-prescribed programme begins with assessment: your history, medications, measurements and relevant blood results. The doctor decides what is clinically appropriate — and will tell you honestly if treatment is not needed.
- Assessment first — nothing sold before it
- One accountable doctor throughout
- Advice based on evidence and your own results, not targets
02
What prescription treatment involves
Where appropriate, options may include GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines (a class that regulates appetite) — given as weekly injections or daily tablets depending on the product. The choice, dose and duration are individual, and the doctor explains what to expect before anything starts.
03
The safety architecture
Prescription weight-loss treatment in Singapore is regulated for good reason. A proper pathway includes screening before starting, gradual dose escalation, side-effect management, and monitoring of weight, measurements and relevant bloods. That is what a doctor-prescribed programme provides.
- Screening before starting
- Gradual dose escalation
- Regular medical review and adjustment
04
What it costs
The first consultation is $80–150; follow-up reviews are $50–80. A doctor-supervised lifestyle programme is $200–500 per month. If prescription medicine is part of your plan it is dispensed separately and quoted with you — the full breakdown is on our cost page.
05
Why 'just buy it online' is a false shortcut
Online purchases of prescription weight-loss medicines bypass assessment, dosing and monitoring — the three things that make treatment safe. Counterfeit products are a real danger. Every legitimate pathway in Singapore runs through a doctor.
Questions
Common questions
What is the difference between doctor-prescribed and over-the-counter weight loss?
Prescription weight loss is a clinical treatment: a doctor assesses suitability, prescribes, monitors and adjusts. Over-the-counter products are not medically supervised and generally lack evidence for meaningful, lasting weight loss.
Will the doctor prescribe medication to everyone who asks?
No. Prescribing is based on clinical assessment, not request. Where treatment is not appropriate — or where lifestyle change alone is the better first step — the doctor will say so and build the plan around that.
Can I see the same doctor every visit?
Yes. At Accord Medical, Dr Joseph Wang assesses, prescribes and reviews you throughout — the plan is judged against your own history, not a chart.
Is this claimable under MediSave or insurance?
Coverage depends on your policy and the clinical indication. Ask the clinic when you book and we will tell you what is and is not claimable for your situation.
Next step
Start with an assessment, not a package
Every plan at Accord Medical begins with a doctor's assessment of your history, measurements and goals — and a clear recommendation, even if that recommendation is that you do not need treatment.
